More than 60 overseas Chinese youths started a cultural root-seeking journey in Nantong

Recently, 2025 ‘China in Children’s Voices’ International Youth Cultural Exchange Summer Camp and Overseas Chinese Elite Youth Cultural Experience Activity was held. In the 10-day activity, more than 60 overseas Chinese youths from 9 Chinese schools in 8 countries which are the United States, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Britain, and Pakistan came to Nantong, and completed a journey to find roots in Chinese culture.

‘We walked on the golden beach, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery by the Yangtze River.’ ‘In Nantong, we tasted various kinds of food. What impressed me most is the delicacy of swimming crabs and puffer fish.’ ‘In the process of making a sachet, every stitch and thread is imbued with the charm of traditional culture.’...

Ganoderma Culture Museum of China is the first stop in Nantong. ‘It’s my first time to see so many ganodermas and mushrooms of different shapes. I not only felt the charm of the ecological environment, but also felt the profoundness of Chinese culture through the magical “immortal herb”.’ Zhen Yiyun from Qiaoxing Training Institute in the UAE said that on that night they also made dumplings with mushroom filling together. The savory flavour was unforgettable for her.

Kong Weichen, an overseas Chinese student from China-Pak Educational Cultural Institute in Pakistan, said that he would bring his hand-painted Chinese painting Blessed with Both Fortune and Prosperity back to Pakistan and hang it on the bedside with his favorite Chinese poetry works. ‘In the future, every time I see these souvenirs, I can recall the wonderful memory.’

‘When I was writing the poem, I found out that Chinese characters are very interesting. Some are like paintings, some are like riddles, and some have a lot of meaning.’ Zhang Enyu from LinD Academy in Slovakia, shared his experiences and feelings when he created the poem Interesting Chinese characters.

Since 2025 ‘China in Children’s Voice’ overseas promotion and exchange activity was started in April, Compilation of Selected Works of Overseas Promotion and Exchange in ‘China in Children’s Voice’ was successively released on ‘Cloud Chinese’ to help overseas Chinese youths learn Chinese and use Chinese. 2025 Overseas Chinese Youth Song Writing Competition attracted more than 1,000 overseas Chinese youths from more than 90 Chinese schools over the world to participate, and collected nearly 1,500 children’s poems and children’s songs.

    近日,2025年“童声里的中国”国际青少年文化交流夏令营暨海外华裔菁英青少年大运河文化体验活动举办。为期10天的活动中,来自美国、巴西、阿联酋、德国、爱尔兰、西班牙、英国、巴基斯坦等8个国家、9所华校的60余名海外华裔青少年来到南通,完成了一场中华文化寻根之旅。

    中华灵芝博物馆是来到南通的第一站。“第一次见到这么多种形态各异的灵芝和菌菇,不仅让我感到生态环境的魅力,更通过神奇的‘仙草’感受到中华文化的博大精深。”来自阿联酋侨星教育的郑贻匀说,当晚,大家还一起包了菌菇馅儿的饺子,鲜美的味道让她难以忘怀。

    来自巴基斯坦中巴教育文化中心的华裔学生孔维宸说,他将把亲手绘制的国画《福禄双全》带回国,与他喜爱的中国诗词作品一同挂在床头。“以后每次看到这些纪念品,都能想起这段美好的记忆。”

    “在写这首诗的时候,我发现汉字真的特别有趣,有的像画画,有的像小谜语,还有的能变出好多意思。”来自斯洛伐克令德学院的张恩予分享了他创作诗歌《有趣的汉字》的经历和感受。

    2025年“童声里的中国”海外推广交流活动自今年4月启动以来,先后在“云上中文”发布《“童声里的中国”海外推广交流精选作品汇编》,帮助海外华裔青少年学汉语、用中文。2025年华裔青少年歌谣创作大赛吸引了全球90多所华校1000余名华裔青少年广泛参与,征集了近1500件童诗童谣童歌作品。
