44 integrated charging-and-discharging inverter units, 249 photovoltaic modules rated at 610 Wp each, and 78 sets of 5 kWh energy-storage battery packs...

On 29 May, a photovoltaic energy storage equipment donation online ceremony was held at the meeting room of Jiangsu Xinba New Materials Technology Co., Ltd.

The photovoltaic energy storage equipment worth 2 million yuan will be divided into 2 batches and donated. It will silently generate power under the sun in Africa, benefiting schools and rural health service centers in Zambia.

‘What we lack is not sunlight, but equipment to convert sunlight into electricity.’In January, Xun Jing, the chairman of the board of Jiangsu Xinba New Materials Technology, heard the words of a representative from the Zambian Ministry of Energy at a forum in Zambia, and had the idea of how to‘lend a hand.’

Zambia relies heavily on hydropower. In 2024, influenced by the strong El Niño, it encountered the worst drought in 40 years. The hydropower grid was on the verge of collapse. The average daily power supply was less than 3 hours. Factories were shut down, hospitals were shut down, and schools were unable to light a single lamp due to lack of power.

Zambia is rich in solar energy resources, with an average annual sunshine duration of more than 2,000 hours. China has the world's advanced photovoltaic industry and the largest photovoltaic power generation capacity. Many photovoltaic and related companies have pursued ‘light’ to Zambia to help them realize their dream of converting light energy into electrical energy.

On the spot, the Chinese assistant to the President of Zambia launched the photovoltaic donation initiative to‘light up the lights for rural schools and hospitals in Zambia’. Xun Jing responded on the spot and made a donation commitment, planning to donate complete sets of specialized photovoltaic and energy storage microgrid systems to 35 public government schools and 12 rural health centers in Kaumbwe Constituency, Petauke District, Eastern Province, Zambia, to solve the root cause of local long-term power consumption difficulties.

From Hai’an to Zambia, the straight-line distance is more than 11,000 kilometers. After Xun Jing returned home, she quickly transformed the promise to a formal donation letter and submitted to the Zambian Embassy in China. The embassy then copied the letter to the Zambian Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and simultaneously notified the Chinese Embassy in Zambia. All donation procedures were completed in just 4 months.

Among all the procedures, therewas a ‘Bright Future Plan’ tailored for rural Zambia. ‘Electricity is stored during the day through solar photovoltaic power, and it can be used at night,’ Xun Jing explained. All donated equipment and plans have undergone overall planning by the company's design institute, taking into account the local natural environment and limitations to ensure rapid implementation and use.

Xinba New Materials Technology is a high-tech enterprise integrating production, research and development, sales, and services, specializing in the manufacture of new photovoltaic materials and the provision of one-stop smart energy solutions.

During the handover ceremony, on the other end of the video call, the Zambian representative expressed his gratitude in simple words: ‘XinbaNew Materials' funding will improve our living conditions and our education and healthcare environment.’

The first batch of donations ofXinbanew materials covers 9 schools and 5 rural health centers and has been handed over at the donation ceremony. The second batch covers 26 schools and 7 rural health centers and will be delivered before August this year. ‘This batch of photovoltaic components are all purchased from the cooperative suppliers ofXinbaNew Materials.’ Xun Jing said thatat alater stage, they will organize peopleto go to Zambia to inspect the implementation and operation of the equipment.
